Artist Statement:
The daughter of an entomologist, I have long been fascinated by insects: bees and butterflies in particular. This White Admiral (Limenitis arthemis arthemis) was particularly striking on the white flowers of a Common Ninebark (Physocarpus opulifolius). As an artist, I enjoy the opportunity to study the pollinator and host plant in detail and carefully draw and embroider the encounter with thread. My intention is to invite the viewer into the details, to consider the importance of these small creatures to our environment.
