Stumpwork and Still Life
Stumpwork is a raised, dimensional, hand-embroidery technique that dates from the Elizabethan era. 3D effects are achieved by padding and applying detached motifs to a background. I combine these traditional methods with modern free-motion machine stitching to present dimensional, primarily botanical works on a larger scale than would otherwise be possible.
